For this piece, I reinterpreted a traditional Hannya mask design from tattoo artist Martial, turning it into a wooden “painting” for a client. The panel combines Ziricote, Atlantic Jarrah, spalted maple and figured birch, using the strong contrasts and grain patterns of each species to echo the expressive lines of tattoo work.
